When an AI-built app starts fighting back, a lot of founders ask the same question: should we fix this or throw it away and build it properly? Both can be right. Here is how to tell.
Signs you should fix it
- The app mostly works, and the problems are in specific places like logins, payments or speed.
- It uses standard tools, like React and Supabase, that many developers know.
- You have real users or data you need to keep.
- The screens and the flow are close to what you want.
In these cases, a cleanup is usually much cheaper than a rebuild. A developer secures the base, fixes the broken parts and adds tests, and you keep everything that already works.
Signs you should start over
- Nobody can explain how the main parts of the app fit together, including the AI.
- The same bugs keep coming back, no matter how they are fixed.
- The data structure is wrong for what the product has become.
- Most of the code would need to change for the next big feature anyway.
Starting over does not mean losing everything. The first version taught you what users want. Screens, copy and the product idea all carry over. Often only the core logic needs to be rebuilt.
The middle path
Many projects end up somewhere in between: keep the front end, rebuild the database and the parts that handle money or personal data. That gives you a solid base without paying to redo screens that already work.
How to decide without guessing
Get a short code review. A developer spends a few hours reading the project and tells you what can stay, what needs fixing and what should be rebuilt, with rough costs for each. It is the cheapest way to avoid a very expensive wrong decision.
If you want that review, send the project in and mention that you are weighing a fix against a rebuild.
